Yuletide Letter 2024
I am requesting ONF (band), LE SSERAFIM (band), Be Your Own King - The Boyz (Music Video), Halazia - Ateez (Music Video), 어젯밤 | Last Night - Jeonghan X Wonwoo (Prologue Film and Music Video), and The Warm Hands of Ghosts - Katherine Arden.

Thank you so much for offering one of these fandoms! I'm excited about all of them and can't wait to see what you choose. If we don't know each other, I am tullycat on ao3. The following are some prompts I've included for inspiration, but don't feel restricted into following any of these too closely. If my prompt sends you down a related-but-separate path, or if you really have a vision for a fandom, I am interested to see where your plot bunnies take you!
Likes:
My preferences lean towards shippy, but I would be happy to receive a gen/friendship fic. Either way, I love found family/friendships that are just as important romantic relationships!
Relationship wise, I love rare pairs, side pairs, and polyam. Pining, flirting/teasing/bickering like a married couple, characters enjoying each other's presence are all good. I do like loyalty kink and soulmates, especially soulmates that choose to be together.
Story wise, I am interested in worldbuilding, trope inversions, unexplored perspectives, trying something new/interesting with structure and form, and generally trying something new.
Plot wise, I like conflicts that are more complicated than simple miscommunication, plotty romances where the romance is the B plot and the get-together is not the main conflict, light angst, happy or hopeful endings, and seeing how characters grow together. Any rating is fine, but I prefer plot with/without porn, rather than pwp.
Also, I love 'and there was only one bed' trope. I gobble it up every single time. :)

Yuto is incredibly talented and hardworking. There are some maknaes who love being doted on and some who would rather everyone forget they're the maknae, and Yuto falls into the second category. To me, that makes a great relationship with his hyungs, who are dying to smother Yuto with love that he must reluctantly accept. I also love how this dynamic has intensified after the hyungs returned from enlistment: they all wanted to live in a dorm with Yuto, they brag to each other if Yuto makes them food or goes on a date with them, they fight over who is Yuto’s favorite, Changyun follows him on bubble.
My favorite Yuto ships are with Hyojin, Seungjun, Hyojin and Seungjun, and Changyun. I have fewer prompts for Minkyun or Wyatt, but I'm also happy read Yuto with either of them if you have a vision!

I'm requesting Yunjin because I love how gen-z meme-y she is (she's a Swiftie and always watching), how introspective she is, and uhhhhh......gay ('friend' crush, portrait of a lady on fire??, ok #understood). I have been really taken by Yunjin/Kazuha as a ship so those will be most of my prompts, but you have free range to write any Yunjin ship with any of the nominated members. I always say I'm one tasty video/fic/etc away from shipping something new, so you have permission to convert me to your ship of choice. And while I'm not interested in ship fic with Eunchae, I loooove Yunjin's friendship with her and how much of a big sister she is, so feel free to add Eunchae as a side character!

I love the drama of Haknyeon's clip. Is he Juliet in a retelling of Romeo and Juliet? Or maybe it's more in line with the camp and humor of the Romeo + Juliet (2005) movie. There's lots of emphasis on the mirror/being kissed - Haknyeon could also be a retelling of Sleeping Beauty/Snow White/other fairytale. Or maybe you want to write selfcest Haknyeon/Haknyeon??
Haknyeon's tagline is make your own romance, so pleaseeee give me romance! The fun of BYOK in my eyes is mashing two characters together and seeing what kind of story you can come up with. I will list ideas from the other nominated characters because I haven't seen many fics using their scenes! However if a different member speaks to you, go for it.

Like the tag says, I am happy for either Seonghwa or San (or both!) to be the main focus of the fic. As always I know very little about the overall Ateez lore so use as much or little as you want.
Please feel free to add in the other nominated characters (Yunho can make things levitate...is he raising the moon? Why is Yeosang in chains?) or the non-nominated characters. I love sanhwa as a ship if you want to include both storylines, but I also ship Seonghwa and San with either of Yunho or Yeosang. (If you want to make ships with non nominated characters go for it....I ship Wooyoung with all 4 of them lolllll basically I'm pretty easy.)

I chose this version of the canon because I thought the prologue film added a little more context to the story and also offers descriptions of both characters ('man who turns into a nightmare'/'man who lives in fear of being forgotten'). However, you are free to pick and choose whatever you want from either video. I am almost afraid of saying too much about these videos because I'm really curious to see your vision! I want to see your explanation of what's happening!

- I have been obsessed with Changyuto. I wrote a ship manifesto. Changyun is down horrendous for Yuto, please end his misery. (This manifesto has so much Seungjun/Changyun/Yuto too, which I'm totally down for)
- I especially love Yuto's relationship with Seungjun, his OFF team leader. Yuto loves to teasingly withhold affection from Seungjun. Yuto also finds it hilarious to say that Hyojin is his favorite hyung, and then laughs when Seungjun gets huffy about it. Maybe Yuto is telling the truth and Hyojin is his favorite, maybe he just wants to tease Seungjun...maybe they solve it with ot3.
- Their reality show Dive Into ONF had lots of bed sharing - feel free to use those pairings as ship inspo. Yuto was SO excited about being able to choose a bedroom which I thought was so cute. Maybe something about how he felt rooming with Jaeyoung? An old crush finally being acted on?
- They've also done a lot of filming - I think it would be fun to dig into any moments from Mixnine, Road to Kingdom, or behind the scenes moments from filming the Can I Step In web drama.
- If you want to write for ONF as a five minute fandom, they have an entire cinematic universe in their music videos. I would be thrilled to get a fic that dives into any of the world building in one/a couple/all of their music videos! (Time travel? Space? Why are they so into trains?!)

- Yunjin said she wants to swap bodies with Kazuha which is a whole prompt. She also seems to pay attention to Kazuha and could answer a lot of questions about her (ok tbf she pays a lot of attention to all the members but my shipper goggles are on). Kuzuha fell in love...she laughs even when the jokes aren't funny...idk the ship is shipping!!
- "maybe in another lifetime she could be doing ballet and i could be doing musical and we met in New York" x That's it that's the prompt...(or also set in canon-verse but she feels this other lifetime bleeding through? Or woke up married in this other lifetime?)
- Again, this opera x ballet au...or maybe you want to write a soulmate au where they always find each other no matter what lifetime they're in
- This twitter collects shinez moments for more inspo
- An au set in one of the music videos! I did gasp when I saw the Yunjin shot in this trailer, so anything set in Easy. I also considered nominating Good Bones but figured I'd put it in a request instead - they have super powers!! Or maybe you want Chasing Lightning or apocalypse au...
- Anything set in canon verse! I don't know a ton of their backstory but if you have a story you are burning to tell, I want to read it! I love canon divergence as well. You could take a leniverse episode, or maybe their recent Coachella performance...
- This scenario ('men from both our countries suck so let's date each other') would work with any Yunjin ship since she grew up in the US...you could make this a non-famous au if you wanted (and add the 'never had an orgasm having sex with a man' trope??)

- Eric riding in on his noble steed (car that he souped up) is a perfect Romeo...please let them both live in this version! Or if you go with a fairytale, maybe Eric is coming to wake Haknyeon up after pricking his finger on his crown of thorns.
- Kevin as Peter Pan! Peter Pan and Romeo and Juliet both deal with youth as a concept...maybe Kevin saves Haknyeon from foolishly dying over some guy, maybe Haknyeon helps Kevin grow up and leave Neverland. If we continue with the Romeo and Juliet storyline, maybe Kevin is the apothecary that sells Haknyeon a sleeping potion to successfully escape his life.
- Younghoon's character is based on the kdrama Princess Hours, which I have not seen, so take as much or as little from that as you'd like! A quick glance at the wiki says Younghoon's character marries a commoner even though he's in love with a ballerina. Haknyeon could be either of those characters....and maybe you want to bring in a third member for an ot3?? Without knowing the drama, Younghoon's outfit (traditional clothes + phone) looks like he could be a time traveler...maybe he has to go back/forward in time to save Haknyeon.

Like the tag says, I am happy for either Seonghwa or San (or both!) to be the main focus of the fic. As always I know very little about the overall Ateez lore so use as much or little as you want.
- Seonghwa: his story is connected to the black figure and all the robed people...he's kind of giving cult leader vibes? Or acolyte. I am drawing off the concert performances here so discard this if you want, but he started rolling back his eyes during Halazia so maybe he's possessed or is becoming a mouthpiece for his god? Or maybe he's all of those things plus an undercover rebel leader - the lyrics are definitely speaking to an uprising/rebellion.
- San: the moon????? San pulls the moon down by himself and then it crashes into him and seems to resonate, please tell me everything that happened there. 'The voice to overturn the world' is that San??? Why is he alone? What happens after the music video ends?
Please feel free to add in the other nominated characters (Yunho can make things levitate...is he raising the moon? Why is Yeosang in chains?) or the non-nominated characters. - Is the tone horror? Thriller? Sad?
- Are Jeonghan and Wonwoo rivals and working against each other? Are they chasing each other through other people's dreams?
- Is all of this happening in a dream world, or are entire cities actually being put to sleep?
- It is also randomly reminding me of the show FlashForward and the movie Inception so use either of those if you wish.
- Who turns into a nightmare and who fears being forgotten? (To me it could go either way)
- I am fine with a gen fic or shippy fic! If you go shippy, do they end up together??? Jeonghan does wake up seemingly alone.

This book was one of my favorites this year! I liked how the storylines connected, the different genres, the characters. The relationship between Laura and Pim really struck me as I was reading. Even from their first meeting in chapter 2, Laura calls Pim 'enchantingly beautiful.' They both understand each other as women who have lost people they love in the war, but I think their friendship goes beyond just that. I would love femslash, but most of these prompts can be turned into gen too.

Some notes about DNW exceptions: I interpreted Pim's ending as her dying, so I am fine with you sticking to the canon ending and including her death. However, I would appreciate no new deaths. If you want to stick to the canon ending, I am also okay with Laura ending up with Jones, but I'd prefer if he's not the main focus of the fic. I am okay with the canon level of violence and injury. I am fine with Winter being an amputee but DNW a fic that focuses on the act of amputation.

And then in chapter 33, Pim asks Laura to cut her hair because she doesn't want to be beautiful for the general or anyone else. Maybe expand on having to perform femininity even during a war/wanting to exist outside of men's attraction as lesbians
- Related to the hair cutting in chapter 33, "Laura almost asked [Pim] for a lock of it, like a foolish knight" that line killed me
- Chapter 24: "In their shared room, Laura stripped off her dress, peeled out of waist and stockings and chemise, stood there naked as Eve with a wet flannel, and attacked the sticky remains of fever-sweat. Pim sat primly on her bed and looked at anything in the room but Laura." sexual tension??
- They do share a bed in chapter 35; what if they comfort each other and it becomes something more
- The whole scene with Pim leaving with Faland in chapter 43 - Laura says she needs Pim and that she wanted to save her but couldn't. Maybe expand on what Laura's thinking? Or we see it half from Laura's pov and half from Freddie's, but what is Pim's pov?
- Any exploration of their development of feelings during the book would be great
Some canon divergence/post-canon prompts:
- Faland's mirror that shows the heart's desire: what if it showed Pim and Laura being together?
- In chapter 39, Laura says "All she could think was that she finally had a second chance. Back in the heart of her own nightmares, she could do it over again. And again. And again, until she got it right. Until she saved her mother." Maybe apply this idea to Pim - does Laura follow Faland and try over and over to save Pim (hopefully successfully?)
- Or just canon divergence where she does save Pim and brings her home
- There's already magic in this book; what about some more magic and somehow Laura, Pim, Freddie, and Winter go through a portal and end up in a happier time and place and heal together? (I didn't include Freddie and Winter in my request but I'm totally cool if they show up!)
