April 2024 Media Recap
May. 12th, 2024 02:53 pmApril wrap-up! (Yes we're halfway into May.)
Cat tax:

(This photo is lying to you. They spend 80% of their together-time tussling, 15% sitting near but not touching each other, and 5% cuddling.)
Anyway once again this is not an exact account of April but whatever. I'm attempting to be better for May??

This month I turned off Spotify's autoplay....which then resulted in me forgetting every song that existed except for the most recent 10 that came out. Is there a happy medium here??? Granted, I am a 'listen to an album from start to finish' person. But I do also like the semi randomness that Spotify sometimes gives me - when I hear a song and say oh I forgot that existed but I love it! But the aggressive way they push songs at me annoys me. I don't know haha. So far I've been trying to play radios based on a song and let it give me the randomness that way.

Books
- Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories from the Twenty-first Century, Edited by Alice Wong
- A selection of essays about different experiences with disability (I believe mostly/only in the US?). A lot of people were included, so each essay felt somewhat surface level to me, but it was still an interesting read. The one essay that stuck with me the most was a Deaf person's experience in prison, which I hadn't considered before and was worse than what I would've imagined had i considered it.
- Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982, by Cho Nam-Joo
- A pretty popular book, translated from Korean, about Kim Jiyoung, who is exhibiting signs of madness after the birth of her daughter. The story recounts three generations of women in her family, showing the inequalities they have all faced. I liked this book even though the subject matter made me mad and thought it was good for book club discussion!
- Station Eternity, by Mur Lafferty (DNF)
- Well. DNF pretty much says it all. I got ~100 pages in and nothing about it seemed promising to keep going so I said goodbye.

Concerts:
- OnlyOneOf
- My only concert this month! I had friends visit for the concert which was fun. I ended up getting VIP because Veronica wanted it, even though I was really just a casual fan. So I did high touch with the members before the concert, which logistically is when it needs to happen, but oh man did I know them much better after the show. I guess I'm Mill biased? Didn't know that going into the concert and was walking too quickly to recognize him in the high touch. After the concert we did watch their gay music video series and their BL so I guess I am full lyOn now.
